Do I remember how to blog?

I have loved sharing quilts and life stuff on Instagram for years, but lately I find myself reading blogs again.  Blogs have actual long form communication that my brain craves.  Let me give it another try.

Sewing in Starkville MS

I'm happy to be sewing again in my new home.  The new house has a pool, which keeps me away from the sewing room.  So when it rains, I sew. Today is a sewing day.

Moving

The Empty Closet is MOVING!



To prepare for the move, we are having a big yard sale. Packing and arranging details has taken over our lives at the moment, I hope to get back to sewing this summer!

Here is proof, the closet is EMPTY.  Yes, it's a technicality, but it's fun to see the glorious emptiness - and to dream about the next closet which will be bursting with fabric, patterns and dreams of more quilts.

Star Blossoms

I'm trying to make every quilt in Scrap-Basket Beauties by Kim Brackett. Her patterns are fun to use and make good use of my enormous stash. I'm still trying to empty that sewing closet.

This quilt is called Star Blossoms and was made with the Island Hopping fabric line by Jenni Calo.

Fancy Foxes

I've been looking forward to making this quilt for quite some time. It's so adorable and the blocks were so much fun to piece! The pattern is designed by Elizabeth Hartman and can be purchased here.

The first one took some attention. 

Then I figured out how to make several at a time. 

I was obsessed for a week. Who needs sleep when you can sew?  I have ordered some fabric for the back, I'm so eager to have this little charmer quilted!

I'm still sewing!

I'm just not remembering to blog. I'll just admit that I enjoy the immediacy of Instagram. But I have gotten a lot of support from other blogging quilters, so I really do want to continue to blog. 

I did finish piecing my Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt. It's GINORMOUS!! I can't find a place to hold it up for a photo until I can get outside again, so a picture of it on the sewing room floor will have to suffice. 

I can't wait to have it quilted, the colors give it such a feeling of spring.

Getting there

I have the Grand Illusion Mystery top nearly complete.  I just need to add borders.  Yes, I know I neglected to post some steps.  I got out of the blogging habit.  Hopefully I can get back in a groove.

Now it's time to cut some yellow strips for an inner border.  I have the outer borders pieced and ready to attach. As a treat, I am going to shop for a back.  I haven't purchased much fabric lately.

This is the first time I have tried a mystery quilt.  It was fun to quilt along during the holidays.  But I think I prefer knowing what I am working toward.  I absolutely will be making more quilts designed by Bonnie Hunter from Quiltville.  I just love her philosophies and her patterns.

Grand Illusion Step Two

I'm keeping up, for now!

Step two is complete, can't wait to start step three. But first I have to work, you know, so I can keep supporting this awesome habit.

GIMQ step 2

I've cut all the squares and rectangles that I need. And I sewed 3 samples to be sure I have the directions correct. Three wrong units would be better than the 40 I made on the first step. 

Now, I need to load bobbins and get crackin'!

Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt

I'm really excited to try a mystery quilt. Maybe too excited. I sewed nearly 40 units incorrectly. 

Well, I'm sure it will turn out grand when I get it straight!

I have done most of them correctly. I can hardly wait for the next clue!

Still stitching.

I'm still working on the batik stars. When I complete these, I'll have a total of 20. That would be enough for a cute through size. But thirty would make a twin. Hmmmm.  Can't decide!!

Changed my mind.

Well, I thought my next quilt was going to be a drunkard's path. But when I pulled out my Accuquilt Go Cutter, I saw the Blazing Star die, and I had to admit that I had owned it for almost two years and hadn't used it. Not once.

What's a girl to do?

Now it's time for decisions. How many blocks?  What color for posts, sashing and borders?  If you need me, I'll be happily playing with fabric in the sewing room.
