on the bandwagon

So I jumped on the bandwagon,  I kept seeing Granny squares in blogland.  Inspired by an old afghan from my childhood home, I pulled fabrics from my scrap baskets

Sewing these together was lots of fun.  I only sewed them in the wrong order a few times.   Fortunately I caught the mistakes before I assembled the top (at least I hope that I did!)
I got it from Jan the Quilter and I just love it.  To be honest, I didn't love the top.  Although it reminded me of something snuggly from my youth, it didn't excite me when I assembled all the squares.  Oh, but now that it is quilted - I'm pretty pleased by the finished product.  Well, almost finished, I will bind it this week.

Look at the quilting!  Jan always makes the quilt come to life.

Eureka!

I have found the perfect fabric for my appliqué heart quilt. The best part is that I found it in my own stash. I'm not able to work on this until the weekend, but now I'm feeling that I really can get this project finished. Hooray!

A big lie!

Well, not so much a lie. Just some wishful thinking. Empty closet - it's a fantasy. I would love to sew all of this in to quilts. Right now. Today. But I have been sewing and collecting fabric for two decades. Shopping from my stash and following blogs like Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville have been so helpful. I occasionally make "no more fabric shopping" pledges to myself, but I must be honest, new fabric can be inspiring. So I will try to use much more than I buy. And maybe look more at the photos of family and friends with new quilts more than I look in this closet.

Binding!!

I like finishing. Really I do. But somehow, I leave projects at the 90% finished mark, and start three more. I'm not touching anything else until this one is done.

It's time to get this WIP finished.

I found a box of 6.5" squares with appliquéd hearts in my sewing room closet this week.  With all of the Valentine's Day inspiration around, I figure this is a good time to get crackin' on this old work-in-progress.  I'm not sure when I began this quilt, but I know I used to do hand sewing because using the machine made it hard for my little boy to sleep with all the noise.  He will graduate from high-school this spring.  I let this go for too long!

I'll dig in the stash for post and sashing fabric, then I'll treat myself to a little shopping for the borders.

The inspiration for this quilt can be found in this book, an old favorite of mine. http://www.amazon.com/Quilts-The-Complete-Guide-Quiltmaking/dp/1933308346
